GREAT DISTINCTION OF THE TEAM OF THE SCHOOL OF LAW NKUA AT THE "MANFRED LACHS SPACE LAW MOOT COURT COMPETITION"

Great Distinction of the Team of the School of Law NKUA at the "Manfred Lachs Space Law Moot Court Competition"

We are pleased to announce that the team of the Athens University School of Law, which represented Greece in the European round of the International Virtual Trial Competition in Space Law "Manfred Lachs Space Law Moot Court Competition" (2024 European Rounds), which took place from 8 to 12 April 2024 in Vienna (Austria), won the European first place after a series of excellent performances. The team 2024, after a series of excellent performances, won the first place in Europe and also won all the other prizes of the competition: the prize for the best written submissions and the prize for the best arguer, which was awarded to Chrysa Vorloou!

This is the first time in a mock trial competition that all the prizes have been awarded to one team!

It should be noted that the Law School team beat the University of Cologne in the semi-final and the University of Leiden in the final. As champions, Athens Law School will represent Europe at the World Finals of the competition, which will take place in Milan in October 2024.

The Manfred Lachs Space Law Moot Court Competition is organised annually by the International Institute of Space Law and at the European level by the European Centre of Space Law (ECSL). This year's case to be judged concerned legal issues related to the protection of dark and quiet skies, freedom of scientific research in space and collisions of space objects. The case is available at: https://iisl.space/index.php/manfredlachs2024/

This year, the team consisted of undergraduate students: Chrysa Vorloou, Evangelos Gazis and Regina Kourtidis, under the supervision and guidance of Associate Professor G. Kyriakopoulos of the School of Law NKUA, with the assistance in the preparation of the team of trainee lawyer George Chatzicharalampous and (undergraduate) student Vera Palialexis, who were members of Team 2022.

Special thanks go to “Hellas Sat” and the law firms “Potamitis-Vekris”, “Lambadarios”, “Dryllerakis and Associates” and “Bernitsa Law Firm”.
