FUNDAMENTALS OF EU LAW – GUEST LECTURE BY DR GEORGE KARIPSIADES – WEDNESDAY 10.01.2024, 15.00-17.00

Dr George Karipsiades will give a guest lecture for the course «Fundamentals of EU Law» in the context of the 2023/24 LLM in International & European Law, on the subject: 

«EU enlargement: an all-in-one treatment for the Union?»

Dr Karipsiades holds a PhD in International Law from the Athens University, an LLM in International Law and a Law Degree from the Thessaloniki University. As from 1994 he has served as a Legal Adviser at the EU Law Department of the Legal Service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and he is the Head of the Department as from 2020. In this framework, he has represented in many occasions the Hellenic Republic before the Court of Justice and the General Court of the EU in Luxembourg, he has participated in negotiations of bilateral investment agreements, immigration agreements, environmental agreements. He has drafted legal opinions in several fields of EU Law, such as external relations of the EU, enlargement, the Common Foreign and Security Policy, development cooperation policy, environmental policy, asylum and immigration policy, the transposition of EU law into the Greek legal system. He has participated in EU Council working groups (High Level Working Group on Asylum and Migration, CIA Committee Investment Agreement, Expert Group on Intra-EU Investment, Aeneas Committee, Convention on the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights, RELEX, CELEX, IGC-Codification-Simplification, Quality of Drafting EU Law, COHOM). He was the Chairman of the High Level Group on Asylum and Migration during the Greek Presidency in 2003 and 2014. Dr Karipsiades has published many articles, he has participated in research projects and seminars and he has taught and lectured in public and private sector institutions.
