The Team representing the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens Law School advanced to the semi-finals of the 2025 All-European International Humanitarian and Refugee Law Moot Court Competition, ranking among the top four teams! This strong result confirms once again NKUA’s record of excellence in this demanding competition.
The 2025 NKUA team consisted of three undergraduate students: Lydia Rakopoulou, Vasiliki Rokka and Symeon Vlachakis. They showcased remarkable dedication and meticulous preparation. Their excellent legal analysis, oral advocacy and role-playing skills stood out in a competition that requires an in-depth understanding of several branches of international law, including international humanitarian law, international refugee law and international criminal law. The team was guided by Dr. Stavros Evdokimos Pantazopoulos and Melina Thanasoulia, a member of last year’s runner-up team, and benefited from the valuable assistance of Semina Athinelli and Eleftherios Staikos.
The 10th edition of this prestigious Competition was held from 18 to 21 November 2025 at the Faculty of Law, University of Ljubljana. NKUA first took part in the competition in 2022 and has since consistently excelled: its record includes two championship titles, last year’s outstanding second-place finish, and now this year’s semi-final result.
The All-European International Humanitarian and Refugee Law Moot Court Competition is based on a Case Study which is carefully prepared by the organisers University of Ljubljana, Faculty of Law in cooperation with the Slovenian Ministry of Defence, the International Committee of the Red Cross, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, and the Slovenian Red Cross. The case addresses topical issues of international humanitarian, refugee and criminal law, often drawing on current situations. The Competition is designed to encourage students to study and understand the fundamental concepts of these fields by tackling concrete legal problems and practising legal argumentation before experienced judges and panel members.
